If you know how difficult and challenging life can be, and want to experience the real peace and joy that Jesus promises, why not visit us at Handsworth Wood Church?

Jesus said, “COME TO ME, all of you who are weary and carry heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart.”

Right now, Jesus is transforming millions of lives around the world.

Through prayer, reading the Bible, and song, we get together to discover the real change that Jesus can make in our lives.

We meet on Sunday mornings at 11.00 am, in Hamstead Hall Academy. We also get together on Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings in one another’s homes.

Questions you might have before you come to Handsworth Wood Church

Do I have to dress smartly?

Only if you want to. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. Most people come in casual clothes.

Will you ask me for money?

On Sunday mornings we pass a small basket around to collect donations but we don’t expect visitors to put anything in it unless they want to.

Will I be asked to introduce myself?

People will want to make you feel welcome so they will talk to you before and after the service. But you won’t be asked to introduce yourself publicly.

Will there be singing?

We love to sing, though some of us aren’t very good at it. We sing a whole mixture of things from old fashioned hymns to modern songs. Often Roger plays his guitar, or we may use CDs.

Do I need to know any prayers?

No. Sometimes we say the Lord’s Prayer together. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the words. We usually say something known as “The Grace” at the end but you can just smile and we won’t mind at all.

Should I bring a Bible?

That’s completely up to you. Some people do, and some don’t. We have Bibles available for use, and if you’d like a Bible of your own, but don’t have one, just tell us. We have a stock of Bibles for giving away.

Can I bring my children?

Of course. If they are young, just make sure they have something to occupy them in case they get bored or restless. You’re welcome to bring snacks for them if you think they might get hungry or thirsty (and we always have squash and biscuits available if necessary!).

How long will it last?

We start Sunday mornings at 11.00 am and try to finish by 12.30 pm. We always have drinks and biscuits afterwards and would love you to stay for that so that we can get to know you. Sometimes we have lunch together. If that’s happening when you come you are welcome to join us. We don’t ask anyone to make a financial contribution for any of these refreshments.

What denomination are you?

We are an independent church and very informal. For those who like to know these things, Handsworth Wood Church (also known as Handsworth Wood Christian Fellowship) is a member of the Evangelical Alliance. It is a Registered Charity number 518980.
